Abstract:By incorporating phosphosilicate sol into sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) polymer blend, the (SPEEK/PVDF)/PSi composite proton exchange membranes were prepared. Compared with the PVDF/SPEEK polymer blend membranes, the (SPEEK/PVDF)/PSi composite membranes incorporated with phosphosilicate not only maintain high dimensional stability as well as good thermal and mechanical properties, but also show an enhanced proton conductivity as well as an improved water uptake. In addition, it is confirmed that the proton conductivity of the composite membrane containing 40% (mass fraction) P2O5/SiO2 powder reaches 0.1883 S/cm, the open circuit voltage of the single cell assembled by this membrane is 0.996 V and its peak power density is 490 mW/cm2.
