Abstract:The dendrimer is a new type of synthetic polymers in recent years, which possesses highly branched, ordered structures and monodisperse characteristic. Therefore it is widely used in many areas such as industry, agriculture, national defense, biomedicine, and optoelectronic materials. However, due to the foreseeable limit of fossil feedstock and the increasing environmental concerns, there is a growing interest in developing polymeric materials from renewable resources. This paper firstly reported the synthesis and functionalization of gallic acid (GA)-based dendrimers, then reviewed the applications of these biobased dendrimers in biomedicine, optoelectronic materials, environmental protections, etc. Finally, the outlook of these novel dendrimers was proposed.
