Abstract:In this article, nylon 12 (PA12)/chloroprene rubber (CR) alloys with high toughness were prepared via dynamic vulcanization method. The effects of vulcanization system types and rubber ratio on the properties of PA12/CR alloys were studied. The results of mechanical properties, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements show that the dynamically vulcanized PA12/CR (70/30) alloy with MgO-ZnO vulcanization system possesses the most satisfactory properties. In comparison with the non-vulcanized PA12/CR (70/30) alloy, the notched impact strength and tensile strength are increased by 91.1% and 37.1%, respectively, which is mainly due to the improved compatibility between PA12 and CR by dynamic vulcanization. Dynamic vulcanization also improves the thermal stability of PA12/CR alloy, the crystallization temperature and crystallization rate of PA12.
