Abstract:The brominated butyl rubbers (BIIR) were prepared from latex. The effects of bromination technology such as amount of brominating agent, bromination temperature and pH value on bromine content and gel content of BIIR products, as well as the solubilities of BIIRs were investigated. The results show that the crosslinking among the molecular chains of butyl rubber (IIR) in butyl rubber latex can take place in the presence of small amount of brominating agent, and the bromine content of brominated products is below 3%. The bromine content and the gel content of BIIR are 2.66% and 54.6%, respectively, when the amount of brominating agent is 2.5 mL, bromination temperature 50 ℃ and pH value 7. The solubility sequence of BIIR products in different organic solvents is as follows: chloroform>cyclohexanone>tetrahydrofuran>phenol>acetone>toluene, and the solubility of BIIR in the same solvent increases with the increment of bromine content.
