Abstract:The effect of the screw type on the properties of recycled glass fiber reinforced liquid crystalline polymer (RLCP-6130) during the melt extrusion process was studied. The results indicate when RLCP-6130 was extruded by single screw extruder with ratio of length to diameter(L/D=30) of 30 and screw diameter of 30mm(Φ=30mm), it could effectively reduce destroy of composite (RLCP-6130-SJ-30). Compared to those of RLCP-6130, the average length of glass fiber (ALGF) and mechanical properties of RLCP-6130-SJ-30 decrease by less than 8.4% and 7.6%, respectively. With the increase of L/D and screw diameter of single screw, the properties of composites decrease significantly, which attributed to the extending of detention time and the increase of mechanical shear stress of single screw. When RLCP-6130 was extruded by twin screw extruder (L/D=30, Φ=30mm), the ALGF and mechanical properties of RLCP-6130-SHJ-30 decrease by more than 50% and 21%, respectively. The shear viscosity, thermal distortion temperature(HDT) and thermal stability of RLCP-6130-SHJ-30 also display the maximum reduction.
