Abstract:Polydopamine (PDA) was synthesized on the surface of down feather and adhered to phase change microcapsule (MEPCM) consisted of inorganic silica (SiO2) shell and n-octadecane (n-OD) core to prepare thermal storage and temperature regulation down feather (MEPCM/down feather). Firstly, the morphology, structure and properties of microcapsule were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, particle size analysis, thermogravimetric analyzer and leakproof test. The results showed that the average particle size of microcapsule was 421.9nm and displayed excellent spherical shape. The microcapsule exhibited good packing and shape stabilization properties. Secondly, the morphology, structure and properties of fabricated MEPCM/down feather were tested and analyzed, and the effect of the amount of MEPCM on the properties of MEPCM/down feather was also investigated. The results showed that the microcapsule adhered to surface of down feather uniformly and effectively, the fabricated MEPCM/down feather with 10% MEPCM had a melting temperature of 26.3oC and a melting heat enthalpy of is 10.9kJ/kg. Meanwhile, it also demonstrated good hydrophilic property, bacteriostatic performance and thermal management capability, the thermal enthalpy can still reach 8.3kJ/kg after washing 5 times.
